Art in the Gardens

Nik and Christi Douglas, owners of the Botanical Gardens, are collectors of fine art and antiquities.  Their love of artifacts from Asia is reflected in the Gardens, where some of their collection is now sited.

An impressive pair of Asian lions or foo-dogs greets you as you pass through the entrance to the Gardens, guarding both the structure and those inside.  Welcoming you into the Gardens is elephant-headed Ganesha – the Remover of Obstacles. Walking through the Gardens you will encounter the Teaching Buddha and representations of the Hindu deities Shiva (Lord of Yoga), Parvati, Durga, Yogeshwari as well as other Asian spiritual icons. The Cosmic Couple are situated in the garden against the splendid views of Mount Nevis.

In the Rainforest Conservatory is a large reproduction pre-Columbian Olmec head which forms a dramatic waterfall together with Olmec and Mayan-motif steles.
