Mangoes for Mommy Project

As part of its mission of education and community outreach, the Botanical Gardens of Nevis introduced Mangoes for Mommy in 2009.  It is an annual program where the science and art of mango grafting is explained and demonstrated to participants between the ages of 10 to 14.  The goal of the program is to increase the number of early to late season mango varieties on the island and engage young people in a hands-on session of grafting mango varieties to local root stock seedlings.  Participants learn the process, graft a number of trees, of which they are able to take one home, and hopefully plant their own gardens, with the hope that eventually, all homes on Nevis will have at least one grafted mango tree.

Enrollment is on a first come basis and limited to 20 participants.
