Rainforest Conservatory

The Rainforest Conservatory is situated on the Vine Terrace with an imposing view of Mount Nevis towering behind. It was modelled on the Palm House at Kew Gardens in England and shelters tropical rainforest plants and the resident parrots. Inside is a Mayan-style ruined temple which forms a dramatic waterfall together with Olmec and Mayan-motif steles.

Tropical plants include palms, bananas, crotons, and anthuriums. Brilliantly-colored plants include the Scarlet Spiral Flag (Costus woodsonii), a member of the ginger family, and the Scarlet Lobster Claw (Heliconia rostrata) with its flowers enclosed in scarlet and yellow bracts eighteen inches long or more.
